DPI, bit depth, color space, and file format choices that make restoration easier and higher quality.

Scan once, scan right. Pick settings that preserve detail and avoid baked‑in artifacts. You can always compress later, but you cannot restore lost data.

  • 600–1200 DPI for prints; 2400+ for small originals like slides.
  • 16‑bit per channel when available; otherwise 8‑bit is fine.
  • Use sRGB for broad compatibility; Adobe RGB for print pipelines.
  • Save lossless (TIFF/PNG) from the scanner, edit non‑destructively.
